Offer bigger portions gradually
To avoid an upset tummy due to a change of diet, it is important to gradually introduce your pet’s new food to them. The images below will also give you a better idea. On day one and two, feed your pet a quarter cup (25%) of the new food and three quarters of a cup (75%) of the old food. On day three and four, add half a cup (50%) of the new food and half a cup (50%) of the old food. On day five and six, add three quarters of a cup (75%) of the new food and one quarter of a cup (25%) of the old food. On day seven you can give your pet the full amount (100%) of only the new food.
Consult your vet
Before changing your pet’s diet, consult your vet first. Make sure that they are aware of the changes and ask them about the quality of the food brand you have decided to change to. Make sure that the way of changing is the right way for your pet, as some pets might have more sensitive tummies than others. The vet might be able to suggest other dog food brands, brands that are not affected by the dog food recall.
After introducing the new food to your pet and despite all your precautions, if the change in diet results in vomiting, diarrhea or other signs of gastrointestinal distress, call your vet immediately. You do not want your baby to start dehydrating and become even more ill.
