Whether you have an outdoor, roll-in-the-mud labbie or a posh toy pom who eats her bikkies from a zirconia-encrusted food bowl, all dogs need to be groomed. Dogs should be kept clean and presentable and this is something you can do in your own home or backyard. At Pet Hero, we stock the best cat toys to make sure your cat is fulfilled through their every mood. From cuddly toys like the Grumpy Cat Floppy Plush Cat Toy, to calming toys like the PetStages Catnip Chew Mice for cats, you will find great variety in our store.

What is the average cost of grooming a dog?

Getting your dog groomed can cost anything from R150 to R500, depending on what it entails (a wash, dry and cut) and how many add-ons your dog needs – like ear-cleaning, gland expression or nail clipping. Dog groomers recommend proper grooming every 4 to 6 weeks, which can add up to a lot of dosh in the long run. But don’t stress: Pet Hero offers you many quality grooming products, which means you get to spend time bonding with Benjy while you bath him yourself at home.

Do you have to have a licence to be a dog groomer?

In South Africa dog groomers are not legally required to be licenced in order to provide a dog grooming service. There are many good groomers who put their staff through extensive training, so your pooch is likely to be in good hands if you need to take him to the groomers (make sure you find a good groomer through a referral or recommendation). But, if your dog is more comfortable at home or doesn’t like strangers, you would do well to groom him yourself.

How often should you get your dog groomed?

Groomers will recommend full-spectrum grooming at least once a month. This is entirely breed-dependent: the grooming needs of a yorkie are completely different to those of a ridgeback, for instance. You can take care of many of your dog’s grooming needs at home, though. Long-haired dogs may need additional care ‘back there’, for which we recommend Earthbath Rosemary & Chamomile Tushy Wipes. Then, if Rover sheds a lot or his coat needs special care, consider the Rosewood Self Cleaning Slicker Brush or the Furminator Deshedding Grooming Tool.
