Doggy Birthday Pupcakes – Which one is for your fur baby?

It’s party time! No, not for you or the human kids, it’s time for your best buddy ever, your fur baby. Dogs have become like family to so many people that some might even say they are their children. So why not invite all their friends from the park and throw a party? After all, your fur baby plays a big role in your life, the reason why you smile and laugh. They are the ones to always greet you at the door when you get home and cheer you up after a long day, no matter how good or bad.

Here are three yummy doggy cakes that you can pick from or you can make all three:

1. Peanut Butter Carrot Cake

Ingredients needed:

  • 1 cup of white flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 egg

Instructions:

  1. Mix flour and baking soda together and then add all other ingredients.
  2. Bake at 180 degrees celcius for 30 – 40 minutes.
  3. Frost cake: whipped non fat cream cheese and spread on cake.

2. Dog-Friendly Banana Cupcakes:

(makes 12 cupcakes)

Ingredients needed:

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 overripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbsp honey

Frosting (optional)

  • 170g  cream cheese
  • 2 tbsp honey

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine water, bananas, vanilla, flour, baking powder, egg and honey. Mix until thoroughly combined.
  3. Spoon into cupcake liners.
  4. Bake for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely.
  5. When cupcakes are cool, you can frost with cream cheese frosting if desired.

Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese and honey until smooth. Spread onto cupcake and enjoy.

3. Zucchini Muffins – Treats for Dogs and Humans

(makes 12 muffins)

Ingredients needed:

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 1 cup chicken stock
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup grated zucchini

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees.
  2. Combine all the ingredients except the zucchini, mixed well, and then add the zucchini, ensuring that it is evenly distributed in the batter.
  3. Spoon the batter into a lined muffin tin, pop the muffin tin into the oven and bake the Whole Wheat Zucchini Pupcakes for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely.

4. Apple Cupcakes With Peanut Butter Icing for Dogs

(Makes 12 Cupcakes)

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened natural applesauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup apple, chopped

For the Frosting:

  • 3 tablespoons Greek yogurt
  • 1½ tablespoons creamy peanut butter
  • 2 strips bacon, cooked and crumble

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Use nonstick spray to grease muffin tin and set aside.
  2. Cook bacon in your preferred method, let cool and crumble. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together egg, water, milk, yogurt, applesauce and honey.
  4. In a separate large bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder.
  5. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and stir to combine. The mixture will be thick.
  6. Gently fold in chopped apples and distribute evenly.
  7. Scoop ingredients into prepared muffin tins. Bake for 20 – 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool in pan for 5 minutes. Remove from tin and let cool completely on wire rack.
  9. To make the frosting, stir together the yogurt and peanut butter, then spread or pipe on top of each pupcake. Sprinkle crumbled bacon on top of each pupcake. Serve and let them enjoy!
