Did you know you can buy pet food and get pet insurance at the same time?

Approx. 5 minutes read

[Sponsored post] It’s the last thing pet owners want to think about, but when emergencies happen, we’re bound to say “Why didn’t I think of that sooner?!” So here’s your sign. Vet bills are part and parcel of proper pet care, but when accidents happen – whether a car accident, an injury from another animal, poisoning or burns, snake bites or an allergic reaction to an insect bite – those vet bills can skyrocket.

Fortunately there’s an easy way to ensure you have appropriate pet accident cover for your furry friend if the need ever arises. Simply buy Ultra Dog or Ultra Cat pet food, then register your pet and your purchase to join Ultra Plus. There is a 30-day waiting period before you’re covered against accidents, but this is how it works.

What is Ultra Plus?

Ultra Plus is medical cover for pet accidents for Ultra Dog and Ultra Cat customers. If you buy Ultra Dog or Ultra Cat food, you need to register your name and your pets on the Ultra Plus website or app. To maintain this cover, all you need to do is continue buying Ultra Dog or Ultra Cat food and logging those monthly purchases on the website or app.

What is my pet covered against?

Ultra Plus is pet insurance that covers accidents only. It is NOT broad-spectrum pet medical insurance for all vet bills. The following accidents are covered by Ultra Plus:

  • injuries from a motor vehicle accident
  • electrocution or burns
  • injuries from another animal, including snake bites
  • swallowing a foreign object, which requires surgical or endoscopic removal
  • allergic reaction to an insect bite (excluding tick or flea bites)
  • accidents resulting in a bone fracture
  • accidents resulting in traumatic ligament/tendon injury, or wounds, abrasions or lacerations

How much is my pet covered for?

There are different coverage tiers, depending on which Ultra Dog or Ultra Cat food you purchase for your furry friend. You’ll be able to claim back up to R6 000 from your pet’s medical bills resulting from any of the accident types listed above. When you join Ultra Plus, you’ll need to familiarise yourself with the requirements and benefits so you know what to expect if you ever need to make a claim.

Tell your vet about your Ultra Plus status

It’s important to let your vet know when you’ve joined Ultra Plus. In the unfortunate event of you needing to make a claim, your vet will need to assist you with a medical report and to complete and sign the relevant part of the claim form. Your vet will also need to supply the invoice showing how much the emergency treatment cost you.

Who’s behind Ultra Plus?

Ultra Plus uses the Hollard Insurance Company Limited, which lets you know there’s a heavyweight financial services provider behind the cover for any medical emergencies your pet may endure.
