These days even your cat can become famous on social media platforms. Here are the top ten most famous cats in the world:
1. Maru is a male Scottish Fold cat that lives in Japan and who has become popular on YouTube. As of September 2016 videos featuring Maru have been viewed over 325 million times.
2. Tardar Sauce is a female cat and an internet celebrity known for her Grumpy Cat facial expression. Her owner, Tabatha Bundesen, says that her permanently grumpy-looking face is due to feline dwarfism and an underbite. She shot to Internet stardom in 2013, after her picture was uploaded on Reddit.
3. Snoopy, the cat,is most popular in China, but known world wide. She is an Exotic Shorthair cat. Her owner takes photos of her everyday and posts it on Instagram. She has such an adorable face with the biggest eyes and smallest nose.
4. Lil Bud was discovered as the runt of a healthy feral litter in a tool shed in rural Indiana. Bud was born with a multitude of genetic anomalies which all add up to one of nature’s happiest accidents. She is a “perma-kitten”, which means she will stay kitten-size and maintain kitten-like features her entire life. Bud is an advocate for homeless and special needs pets all over the universe. Since before she was a star, she has made it a point to spread a message of positivity, acceptance and inspiration.
5. Colonel Meow was adopted by his mom in October 2001. He was a Himalayan-Persian crossbreed, who holds the 2014 Guinness World Record for the longest fur on a cat. When news of the Colonel’s illness spread online, his fans of both the human and cat variety rushed to show their support. In November 2013, Colonel Meow was hospitalised due to heart problems and underwent a difficult surgery and blood transfusion. On 30 January 2014, his owner announced on Facebook that Colonel Meow had died. She also expressed gratitude for the support of his more than 350 000 followers.
6. Cooper is a 6-year-old American Shorthair cat living in Seattle. Once a week he wears a lightweight digital camera fastened to his collar, which snaps a new photo every 2 minutes. It’s truly amazing to be able to see the world from a cat’s perspective. Seeing the neighbourhood from 15 cm off the ground is something humans aren’t used to, and it is exciting to see what cats see when people aren’t around.
7. Nala, an adorable crossed eyed domestic shorthair cat from Los Angeles, California, is famous for her amusing antics on Facebook. There’s a whole host of Nala merchandise if you’re a fan, including Nala mobile phone cases, t-shirts and bow collars.
8. Scarface is Singapore’s very own gangster cat. His face was full of scares due to many cat fights. He was featured at least 7 times in the media and publications like: Your Cat magazine, UK; Pets magazine SG; The New Paper; Channel News Asia; Kiss92 radio station; Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy video; and Cat Welfare Society calendar boy (twice!). Scarface died on 21 June 2015 and is still missed by all his fans.

10. Street Cat, Bob. Street musician James Bowen and his loyal ginger tom cat, Bob, found each other in 2007 when their lives were at a low ebb. Their story is told in the book A Street Cat Named Bob and a National Film Award DVD. According to Bowen, Bob’s best trick is that he’s “the ultimate escape artist.” If he wants to get outside for some air, he will find a way.
