What is Black Friday?
Black Friday is originally an American sale/deal that started much earlier than people think. The day after Thanksgiving was the unofficial beginning of the Christmas season since the late 19th century. President Lincoln designated Thanksgiving holiday as the last Thursday in November.
After many different names, Black Friday itself did not become famous until 1966. On Black Friday almost all stores have great sales on just about anything. Deals start from early, and people stand in line hours before the stores are open to grab the bargains of the year.
Why is it called Black Friday?
The closest reason as to why it is known as Black Friday is given in Wikipedia: “Many retailers report some of their highest profits on Black Friday. The black portion of the name, “Black Friday” relates to businesses recording their losses in red ink and gains in black. This tradition lives on in modern accounting software, hence the name.” The term Black Friday got traction with the Internet. Deals on websites started to highlight “Black Friday sales” from 2003 and retailers picked it up. Therefore Black Friday is essentially an internet term. Before the term people referred to it as “Day after Thanksgiving Sale.”
Are there black Friday sales online?
Most online stores start their sales when most retail stores start, but with Pet Hero online store Black Friday starts at midnight and ends at midnight. Don’t worry if you missed it; there is always Cyber Monday.
