How to Throw a Prrrrrfect Cat Birthday Party – The Meowful way

When it comes to birthday parties and our loved ones, we like to surprise them: put off the lights and as soon as your guest of honor walks through the door the lights go on and everyone jumps up and shouts “SURPRISE!”. Hahahaha…. Your cat will probably get the fright of it’s life and hide for the rest of the party time. So, as excited as you might be, maybe a big fuss is not what your cat might like. Maybe something more gentler and not so shocking. So how do you start?

1. Guest List:

One thing to remember is that cats are very territorial. Even though you would love to invite buddies over to come and play, your cat will most definitely not like that. Therefore keep it simple and rather invite the human kind of buddies, the ones that he visits across the road or whose wall he walks on to go climb his favourite tree. You can also invite the people who has played a role in his life. Maybe grandma and grandpa and some of your own friends. Consider asking a friend to take photos, so you can spend your time hosting and not worrying about capturing all the fun on film. You might also consider asking your human guests to stand in for their kitty counterparts by dressing the part. Lion, tiger and leopard costumes are a good start.

2.  The decor:

The decor can be anything you like. After all, how do you  tell your cat that all this effort is for him and that he is aging? But if you still want to go all out, there are so many fun things you can do. There are many famous cats like Hello Kitty, Grumpy Cat and so many more that you can use as a theme and decorate accordingly.

3.  Games:

If you are going to have children over, it is a great idea to keep them busy and make the day fun for them also. You can have a kitty cupcake decoration contest or make your own kitty ears. Make a fun obstacle course to see who has the best agility skills, e.g. like a cat climbing a tree, a balance beam and laser beam obstacle course.

4. The gift:

Let’s face it, you’ll probably end up spoiling your cat for her birthday all on your own, without any help needed from your guests. As such, why not contact your local animal shelter and ask what they need? Then suggest on your invite that your guests come to the party with one of those items, so you can donate the whole lot of gifts to the shelter after the party.

5. The cake:

Everyone comes over for your very special furrrr baby, so why not have a cake to sing “happy birthday” with? You can get a cake for the humans, but if you want one for your prrrr-baby, here is a yummy safe recipe you can make for your cat. It only makes two cupcakes, so if you do have more prr-babies, you can double up the recipe.
