Tick and Flea Control

Ticks and fleas can be your cat’s worst enemy. These pests live in and around your cat’s environment and then bite into your cat’s flesh to feed off your cat’s blood. These bites from ticks and fleas can have a range of reactions in your cat. Beyond the pain and irritation from the bite itself, which could be similar to a mosquito bite for humans, your cat could be prone to diseases passed on by the fleas and ticks.

In the case of tick and flea treatment, prevention is most definitely better than cure. Keep your cat protected from any harm rather than your cat becoming sick before you notice the problem. Depending on your cat’s behaviour and exposure to areas where ticks and fleas may breed, your cat may require a different method of protection from the harm that these ticks and fleas could cause. You could protect your cat by applying tick and flea products to the back of your cat's neck area through a pipette or a vial. This spot-on treatment works by distributing itself around your cat’s body through the natural oils on your cat’s skin. In effect, this spot-on treatment provides a protective barrier that the tick or flea bites into instead of biting the flesh itself. Alternatively, your cat could simply wear a collar that is designed to stave off ticks and fleas. Beyond that there is the option of spray-on treatment, shampoo and powder that could be used in combination to protect your cat from tick and flea bites.

Ticks and fleas breed rapidly and are active throughout the year. Whilst they are more active and prevalent in the spring and summer months, it is advised that you protect your cat from fleas and tickets throughout the year. Part of the treatment process is to ensure that your cat’s surrounding is as tick and flea free as possible, this may mean that your cat’s bed and/or blanket should also be treated.
