Made by Novartis (Elanco), CAPSTAR® is a non-pesticidal oral treatment for fleas on small dogs (1 – 11 kg) and cats. There is also a CAPSTAR® application for large dogs weighing more than 11 kg. CAPSTAR® contains 11.4 or 57.0 mg of nitenpyram, which belongs to the chemical class of neonicotinoids, and kills adult fleas. It begins working within 15 minutes.

CAPSTAR® is indicated for adult fleas already on the cat or dog, and not for the animal’s environment. Should there be a re-infestation of fleas on the animal, another dose of CAPSTAR® can simply be administered. It is for this reason that all dogs and cats present should be treated with CAPSTAR®.
